The Globalization Project:
This project in humanities was called the Globalization Project. In this project we studied different aspects of Globalization in order to write an op-ed about a topic of our choice revolving around globalization. After writing our op-eds we then created political cartoons to further illustrate our understandings.
This project taught me a lot about the world because previously I just assumed that the world has always been fully connected excluding the Cold War. It was really interesting to learn about how Globalization is just a brand-new thing. My main takeaways would have to definitely be the fact that Globalization is a new thing, and before the world was very separated, but also the thought that Globalization has its positives but also its negatives and isn't perfect.
Looking through my op-ed drafts, I notice that in my original draft I was writing unnecessarily long sentences, just trying to reach the required word count. I had a bunch of unnecessary words and sentences that weren't needed and just were too long and complicated. My main writing take-away from op-eds is the fact that I need to try hard to have my words actually make sense rather than be a certain length. The writing in my op-ed is different from previous writing I have done because I for the first time really had an issue with too much writing, rather than struggling to reach the minimum word count. I really had to go through and make sure I did not have any wasted words or sentences.
Me drawing my op-eds idea out really helped me solidify what I wanted the main point of my op-ed to be because that had to be the main idea for my art piece. One major point I had to take away from my political cartoon was the use of captions, I had to add and re-vise my captions many times in order for my piece to be in the state it is and make sense.Expressing my idea visually really helped me refine and adapt and maybe creating my art piece earlier would have helped me solidify my idea earlier in my op-ed.
