College Essay Project
Essay
Reflection
The main skill that I developed during this project in regards to writing was personalizing writing. I never really write about myself, I always just write about topics and events and never really actually write about my personal life. This was new to me, and initially my essay was way too focused on the event and not myself so this was the main thing that I had to change. "I toured a church where a US paratrooper became entangled on the steeple during the initial assault, and thought about what he must have felt, stranded there, and what his life was like as a German captive." This is a quote from my essay, and this was basically the majority of it; just me rambling on about a tour that I went on without talking about myself. I got a bunch of feedback telling me to personalize it further, and that is exactly what I have done with my final draft. "Visiting historical military sites, instead of just reading about them in books, helps me understand events more clearly and compare them to situations today. Despite the sadness of viewing the remembrances of the casualties, I wouldn’t trade my experience of seeing Normandy for anything else." This is a quote from my essay where I make it more personal by talking about how I personally felt during the tour vs just describing the tour itself. I enhanced my essay by as I have mentioned, personalizing it. This personal addition really makes the essay much better and tells a lot more about who I am as a person.
